Misty Mersey

A couple of weeks back I took a trip into Liverpool where the misty weather gave me some dramatic shots.

New start

A change of tact: as it was getting all a bit much with this project, family life, work and friends I am not able to carry in the same vein. So from now I'll be posting every week or so with new photo's. 

Yesterday we all went out to New Brighton where the sea was a little choppy to say the least, however, it made for some dramatic shots. The first couple in the series were done using long exposures, creating a ghosting/ mist effect to the water. 'Til next time....

No. 226: Pineapple

I've been finishing packing for Portugal tonight, so i'll have to be brief tonight. I'll hopefully be able to keep my Blog updated, but the kit I'll be using to take the images with will just be a little compact and my mobile.

No. 225: Phot -tat-o

It has had to be a quick one tonight as I had to go to the doc's after work, then the shops after that, then sort out my anti-virus software on my PC, (oh and say hi to the wife and kids), so I have only had about half an hour to shoot, edit and post!

A hungry baby just letting us know that he needs some grub in his belly. You would have thought he'd never been fed! I like this one tonight, not the usual happy, smiley pic's but something that shows the other side of parenting!

No. 222: The Runcorn Ridge-back

A trip to Wigg Island in Runcorn, and I found this outcrop of stones and posts peeking above the low tide like a  monsters spine as it patrols the Mersey. Maybe more monsters tomorrow....

Here's today's pic from earlier on. Emily, not the shy retiring type, want her photo taken with vertually her whole face in the picture, with tomato sauce smile as well. Still, I quite like this one.

Ruth caught these lazy pair when she was cutting back the Hoster. Snuggled up together they where waiting to pounce on those nice juicy leaves.

Caught this unfortunate Daddy-long-legs (or Very-long-legs as Emily calls them), in a spiders web. At least it it helped me get tonight's shot, thanks Mr Spider.

Spotted this little fella' on a walk with Henry around the park. It won't be long now before these little critters start coming into the house to keep warm as winter starts to set in.

No. 217: Gothic goblets

I nearly forgot that we had these Gothic type goblets. They look really theatrical, especially when you pretend the red wine is blood, Mwahahahahah!....ahem.

Just a quick one today, not had too much time what with Sophie and Emily telling me what they did on there first day back at school for another year and having to go out and get Sophie a new school bag!

No. 215: Pier-ing out to the horizon.

I'm quite chuffed with today's photo. A short drive out to Southport and head off to the sea again, and in particular the pier. After a few shots using my new 10 stop, (long exposures ahoy), and eventually coxing my daughters out of the sea, soaked, we went for walk topside. A nice afternoon had by all.

Thank God it's Friday....oh hang on I was only in work for one day this week! I'm feeling all arty again tonight so black-and-white it is, and still life t'boot.

No. 212: Seascape

A trip to Crosby this afternoon and the chance to get a shot of the sea. Using my new filter, this long exposure shows the clouds speeding passed and blurs the sea so as it merges into the sea shore. I had to be careful walking round as the wet sand nearly took my wellies off.

No. 211: A shot for a Prince

My new B+W 10 stop filter arrived today, and as we went to Liverpool One, I thought that I'd give it try out with a few test shots down at Princes dock. I'm quite pleased with the results, can't wait to get closer to the sea next time, or get to a waterfall, the results should be great.

No. 210: Drifter

A nice trip out to the beach at New Brighton, we had a lovely meal in Prezzo before heading across to the sandy shores. All sorts of driftwood had been washed ashore but none as big as this branch. I like how it looks snake like, rearing its head to check you out.

Here's the final photo this week and pearl ring has a new friend....another trip to Pandora, I think Ruth is obsessed, and she has no intention of stopping at just these two beauties, well we all need a hobby!

Here's the penultimate picture of the week, some rough gravel against the smooth, finished, freshwater pearl. I like the rich, earthy colours of the stones in contrast to the iridescent surface of the pearl. Last one tomorrow,

Here's the 4 shot of the pearl ring and once again, I made use of my flash gun, this time using the extension cord. I was going to make use of the daylight, but I have notice that the evenings are starting to get shorter and by the time I got around to take this pic' the light was half gone!

Here's ring no 3. The back drop is one of a set of invites I made for a friends wedding. I used the slave function on my flash gun for the first time on this shot, it's a great feature and not getting tangled up in the off camera cord is a bonus.

Just a quick one tonight, as I'm watching the footy. This week I will take different shot of the same subject, I want to try and get something special by focusing on one subject. I bought this pearl ring for Ruth's birthday and think that it's a nice object.

Oi!, come back!...I just wanna take your pic! Another one gets away, this tree is too fast and is heading off over the horizon. Oh well the end of another week.

No. 200: Tree gang

I caught this gang of Fir trees roamin' across Sefton park. The way the are leaning looks like they are moving toward there mates near by. Go on trees!!!

No. 199: Lonely tree

One little tree all on its own away from all its mates. This little tree stood out from the rest, standing amid the grasses and wild flowers with all the other trees around the edge of the feild, funny how this little fella has been allowed to grow.

I had a tough decision tonight.......I thought that I was going to give this project up! Inspiration low, time low and I don't want it to become a chore............but I took this pic, bought a few photo mag's and had a chat with the wife, Ruth. I think I now have renewed vigour. Onwards and upwards.

No. 197: Out on a limb

The weather was a pants today, but it brightened up just in time this evening, when I ventured out to get today's photo. I also was getting bullied by the girls as soon as I got in from work so was a little glad to get out!

No. 196: Dead tree

The light was fading quickly tonight so by the time I got out the sun was a little lower than I would have liked. I managed to find this dead tree, it stuck out amongst the other trees as it looked skeletal, this would be a nice subject on a cold, misty morning.

No. 195: Swap tree

A new week, a new beginning. This week trees I think. On one of the routes I walk the dog there is a pool that is covered in pond weed and looks like the swamp that Yoda lives near. The tress are twisted and contorted into many strange shapes, they look like some sort of mutated swamp creature.

No. 194: Fire, fire burning bright....

I'm feeling a little delicate today after Ruth's birthday celebrations yesterday, and I've been bitten to hell by some evil bugs. This week final photo was taken of a tea light in a glass holder, surrounded by card. It's amazing how a tiny fire light can give off so much.
