No. 182: Leaf beads

Rain, rain, rain, and more rain, all good when you're shooting water, but dull for everyone else.

No. 181: Make a splash.

The first of this weeks batch of pic's and with all the rain forecast for this week I though that I'd base this weeks theme on water. Using the strobe light on my speedlite, I was able to capture the splashing of the water against the blade of this kitchen knife easier. I hope that sometime this week I'll get the crown shot I was trying for near the start of this project.

No. 173: Liverpool Cathedral

Here's the last photo for this weeks theme. The Liverpool Anglican Cathedral was a fine choice to end of this weeks Churchy theme and it's nice just to be able to wander in, unlike most of the churches I have visited. I think from the outside most of these type of religious building look foreboding, until you get inside. The size of this place is immense but it is full of warmth; with the organic carved columns made from sandstone that seem to radiate heat, these structure raise to the heavens only to frame the impressive stained glass windows. The colours that glow from each window and the shear scale do leave you transfixed.

What to take tomorrow and the rest of the week? Hmmmm, we'll see.

No. 172: Holy sunshine!

Today's churchy pic is of Prescot Parish Church. While Ruth and the kids where off to Tesco's down the road from where this church lives, I saw the opportunity to sneak away from boring shopping and after dodging the drunks having an afternoon brew, I got some pic's. Today was I bit of nicer day weather wise: no rain and the sun put in an appearance.

No. 171: What a pane!

Day 5 of this week church theme, and today is St Ann's in Rainhill. This massive window probably looks great on the other side, but unfortunately you can't just wander into churches these day's. Hopefully I'll get inside one of Liverpool's Cathedrals this weekend and get some nice inside shots.

No. 170: Double take.

Here's another St Bartholomew Church! This time in Rainhill. It has the biggest front door I have ever seen. The design of this building is a bit of departure from the Gothic style that so many churches in the area adopt. This Catholic church was completed in 1835, build from local stone it really is quite an imposing structure.

No. 169: Do the Bart man

This church is St Bartholomew's in Roby. This church was built in 1850 as a chapel of ease, as a memorial to Richard Earl who was Lord Derby's estates manager. The church building has grown many times over the years to allow for an increasing population in the area. More churches tomorrow.

No. 168: Parish pic.

St Nicholas C of E in Whiston. This village Church was built in the 1860's and is still not quite finished. The bell tower was due to have a spire on top, but mining subsidence prevented it from ever being built. I was quite luck to get good light when I did as it's been raining and grey all day, funnily enough the clouds lifted as I left Manchester. More churchy stuff tomorrow.

No. 167: In-spired

I thought that for this weeks theme I would tackle churches, and the first one for the week St Michael's Parish Church in Huyton. There isn't much of a cemetery next to the church as it's over the road, I would have liked to of got some gravestones in shot but there where none about. Hopefully I can get a more spooky church tomorrow.

No. 166: Soft & warm

Here's the last photo for this weeks wild flower theme. Calendula I think, a type of Marigold, I like the soft focus on this one. It was another trip to the National Wildflower Centre, and after setting up my Macro lens and camera kit I got there shots in and my camera died, and I had no spare battery with me. So that was that, short and sweet. New week tomorrow and a new challenge.

No. 165: Hand in Foxglove

Where better to take wild flowers photo's than at the National Wildflower Centre in Bowring park. They were having a Scarecrow festival; some of the entries were really scary especially the one with the queens face on! The owl's that were on display (random), were cool as well, Emily was really brave and held a barn owl, it was nearly as big as she was. We might go back there tomorrow as it's running all weekend.

No. 164: Mystery plant

Ya got me, anyone know what this is? I thought at first 'Cornflower', but I don't think it is? It looks too big. The little scally's that were eyeing up my camera also didn't know!

No. 163: Planty pic'

I'm beginning to forget what sleep is as Matthew is still keeping us up throughout the night with his baby antics. So today's post will be brief: the planty pic today is of Meadow Cranesbill, and they all look like blue satellite dishes, I think the bees are tuning into sky sports! (more sleep needed).

No. 162: A million carrots

Well here's tonight's wild flower and is a 'Wild Carrot'. There's loads of this stuff in the park, so there was plenty of choice. I was lucky to get the shot with the Sun shinning though a gap in the trees in the background and then the light hitting the flower. More flowers tomorrow...

No. 161: A bit of a bind!

Bindweed; a nice big flower such a horrible name, although it does get everywhere.  I think I was getting on Henry's nerves as I kept having to call him back every 5 seconds so I could take my pic's, he had a look on his face as if to say "I want to run on that field over there and let the grass tickle my tummy, but you're holding me back human, now hurry up and take your God damn pic!"

No. 160: Wild flower or weed?

Well it's back to work for me after two weeks off after Matthews birth and it's flown over. I bit of a shock to this system it was today, I had trouble keeping my eye's open driving in today. Well with the start of a new week I though that i'd try and keep it natural after last weeks HDR pic's. Wild flowers, and to start with this Thistle.

No. 159: Truck stop

Here's the last photo for the week, and I came across this old, little yellow truck as I was walking Henry, it looks like it has just been left to rot. It is well camouflaged against all the yellow skips, I think it might of been forgotten about as it blends in so well!

No. 158: Bee gone!

I know that this photo is not in keeping with the theme for this week but I had to get a shot of this poor soaked Bumble Bee. The weather yesterday was atrocious, with rain falling pretty much everywhere, all day. This morning it was dry but the ground was still sodden, and as I continued to working on my decking I nearly stood on this little fella. At first I thought that he must have stung something and it was about to die, but no, he was too heavy to fly due to the soaking he got, if you look closely his wet fringe is in his eyes. I moved him onto a leaf and he seemed happy, he soon dried, before he could get his wings to lift him off.

So who do you think would win then, the two long wheel based transit vans or the little red tractor? My moneys on the tractor, just look at those wheels!

No. 156: Top me up.

Ahhh the sun came out for a change, anyone would have thought that it was Summer. I'm not sure if this  plant is still in use, but it's a bit like a Cement drive-through, just park your truck underneath and your back end is topped to the brim with a fresh load. More industrial imagery tomorrow.

No. 155: Cool off.

Yet another grim day, full of cloud and rain. It seems apt though that the atmosphere created around the cooling towers at Fiddlers Ferry power station from the grey sky, added to by the plumes of vapour billow out, can conger up such a dooms day image. These monoliths dominate the sky for miles around but the optimist in me cant help thinking that these dinosaurs will become extinct sooner rather than later.

No. 154: Craning my neck

Today's photo was taken down on Weston Point, in Runcorn. It was quite hard getting close to most of the plant due to pesky fence and guard dogs, anyone would think that the public weren't welcome to just wander  around a major refinery plant. Still got a shot of some nice orangey-yellow cranes straddling the railway though. These industrial places are proving difficult to get close to anything to shoot, I'll try again tomorrow.

No. 153: Photo factory

Here's the first photo of this week. I've decided to carry on with HDR for now as I didn't get a full week out of it, I'm also going a bit industrial as you can tell from today's photo. I'm not sure if this building is being ripped down or refurbished, as all of the side panels have been removed exposing its inner workings. I tried to get closer but the pesky barbed wire was getting in the way.

No. 152: Ahhhhh, nice.

Here's the final photo for this weeks theme, I'm sure that there will be more pic's of my boy, but this is the last for now. Proud Mum with her Son and proud Dad and Husband behind the camera.
